Many people complain of heart burn. Sometimes after eating something acidic, spicy or like citrus fruits, you gets a burning sensation down your throat. Acid reflux or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a condition where the stomach acid comes up from the stomach into the oesophagus. This is a chronic disease as the liquid can damage the lining of the oesophagus. This liquid contains acid and pepin produced by the stomach. At night time when the person is asleep, the condition causes much harm. It is usually a life long disease. Once it begins a person has to learn to live with it. But there are many ways one can control the acid reflux. Following a proper acid reflux diet which contains no such food that can trigger the GERD can be a great way to avoid the heart burn. It has been seen that certain food can aggravate the problem so it is better to keep away from them. There are many foods to avoid for GERD or which can increase the heart burn. Food like oranges, other citrus food vinegar, tomato juice, alcohol, black pepper, carbonated drinks, etc are the avoidable foods.
Following acid reflux diet with fresh apples, bananas, cabbage, carrot, peas, broccoli, egg white, fish, chicken, cheese, multi grain bread, corn bread, rice, mineral water jelly bean etc are good for the condition. These foods are much easy on the stomach as they tie up the excess stomach acid. It is also very necessary that while following the acid reflux diet one should not eat too close to bed time or eat too big a meal. Eat at least two or three hours before bed time. This can aggravate the condition of heart burn. It has been seen that body functioning differs from person to person. Coffee, tea, beers are other foods to avoid for GERD. Most people suffering from GERD drink milk as a part of the acid reflux diet to soothe the burning sensation. In many cases it does work but it has been to have a rebound action and cause more secretion of the acid. It is very important to include complex carbohydrate in the acid reflux diet you have. Fast foods and processed products are some foods to avoid for GERD as they can increase the problem. There are some foods that can be had with discretion. This includes food like ketchup. Cookie, garlic, yogurt, garlic bread, ham, fried fish onion, scrambled eggs, non alcoholic wine, etc. it is very important to eat small meals and well balanced one as a part of the acid reflux diet to keep down the condition that causes much heart burn.
