Anxiety is a state of mind .It is a psychological state of mind. It is predominantly emotional but is also dependent on cognitive and behavioral pattern. Anxiety comes from the word “vex” which means to trouble. Either during stress or in the absence of it, anxiety is normally responsible for the fear that we feel sometimes. It is a normal way of reacting to stress. It gives a person false security when he is facing a problem or a stress.
Anxiety Remedies – Home Treatment
Sometimes, it is always better to get a problem treated at home. Some of the anxiety remedies which can be done at home are:
- Passion flower: Passiflora incarnata or the passion flower is the oldest anxiety remedies used by folk treatment. Passionflower was normally used for treating anxiety and lack of sleep or insomnia. Research shows that there is a strong relation between passion flower and benzodiazepine drugs. It was also seen that with the administration of passion flower treatment, the person showed an improvement in performance and felt less drowsy. But passion flower treatment has its own disadvantages as it makes the person drowsy, sick and results in a rapid heartbeat. It should be remembered that passion flower is to be taken only with medical supervision.
- Body therapy: The best way to beat anxiety is to take a lot of rest and improve the sleep pattern. Once this is done, the stress and the tension take a back seat. Thus massage therapy, shiatsu and other body works are definitely good anxiety remedies.
- Almonds: Almonds have proven to be a good stress relaxing agent. A few raw almonds soaked at night and had the next night with a cup of warm milk, ginger and a pinch of nutmeg helps to relax the tense muscles.
- Baking soda: A mixture of one third cup baking soda and one third cup ginger added to warm bath helps to relieve the tension of the muscles within. This relieves a lot of anxiety. This is one of the easy anxiety home treatment.
- Oil: Sesame oil, sunflower oil, coconut or corn oil are all good stress busters. These when heated a little and applied all over the body produce a wonderfully effective stress relieving experience. If it is possible to ask someone to roll a rolling pin over the body, it is like an icing on the cake for stress relief. It is ideal to get a massage in the morning. This is because it helps to relax the stressed nerves and you could proceed with the day easily. In case, you remain awake due to anxiety, then having an oil massage is one the best and effective anxiety remedies.
- Celery and onion: When celery is mixed with onions and is eaten either raw or cooked, then the deficiencies
s of potassium and folic acid are avoided. The deficiency of these leads to a lot of feeling of nervousness. Thus consumption of celery is one of the easiest anxiety home treatment. - Orange: Orange fruit belongs to the aromatherapy group of substances. The aroma of orange is a good stress buster. Inhale the orange peel and feel your anxiety melting. It is also a good idea to put a peel of orange into a potpourri boiler or small pan. Add water to this and then let it simmer. After it is heated, the orange peel starts releasing its fragrance. It also lets out oil. Both the fragrance and the oil are good stress relievers and the common forms of anxiety remedies. It is also a good idea to have orange juice with one teaspoon honey and a pinch of nutmeg. This is a good form of reducing stress.
- Rosemary: Rosemary is an age old herb used as a stress reliever. A tea is made by adding one to two teaspoons of the dried herb to one cup of boiling water. This is allowed to simmer for 10 minutes and then had. Rosemary is also a good inhaler for stress relief. Even burning a sprig of rosemary is good as the fumes that are brought out relieve stress. The fragrances of herbs are good remedies.
