Most cases of signs of back pain, especially when it is acute, stays for only a few days. But if it continues for more than three months, then it is considered as chronic. Only in some cases, this pain spreads down to the leg. Sometimes when the pain is caused from injury to the muscles or ligaments, the back pain symptoms would increase especially while you bend. As the lower part of the back is mostly affected by the pressure you put on it during physical activities, it is common to find people suffering from lower back pain, which is again nothing more than signs of back pain.

There are a lot of factors contributing to symptoms of back pain. First and foremost is your posture. You put a lot of pressure on your back muscles when you sit on chairs and not enough support is given to the spine. And this turns out to be one of the most common reasons for acute back pain. Another factor for back pain is lifting heavy objects and also bending to lift heavy objects. This again causes strain to the muscles or ligaments which in turn causes acute pain.

Of all the most common back pain symptoms is pain that you experience during bending, walking or doing any activities related to sports. Similarly, don't ignore the pain experienced while you sit or stand in a certain position for long. The stiffness around your waist while you sit for quite sometime and the pain that you experience while getting up from bed are the common signs. Numbness or weakness experienced in the legs, shooting pain going down the legs, the pain experienced while coughing or sneezing and feeling totally immobile are also sure signs of back pain.

But in the cases of women the back pain conditions can be unique. It can be even related to their personal situations in life. The causes can be a combination of physical, psychological and social factors. Sometimes it can also be as a result of breast cancer or a side effect of its treatment. Osteoporosis could also be one of the major causes for back pain in women. The other causes could be related to pregnancy, large breasts, fibromyalgia, menstrual cycle and arthritis.

Doing regular back exercises like pelvic tilts, bridge exercises and low impact aerobics are the most common forms of treatments. Heating is also another popular form of back pain treatment where the heat increases blood circulation which in turn makes the muscles relaxed. Acupuncture is another method which has produced excellent results.

Sometimes depending on the symptoms, your medical history and the duration of pain, the doctors can prescribe different medicines. The most common ones are acetaminophen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, muscle relaxants and antidepressants. Other than this, sometimes even Botox injections and anticonvulsants are given to the patients. Whatever be the medications you take, let it be with the consent of a doctor as the medicines suitable for one person may not suit another.
