Cervical Cancer often starts in the cervix which is the lower part of the womb (uterus) .There are two types of cervical cancer - Squamous and Columnar. The most important virus which causes majority of Cervical Cancer is called Human Papillima Virus (HPV).This virus is spread through sexual intercourse. The diffrent types of cervical cancer can be detected through early signs and symptoms. These symptoms are :
- Bleeding after menopause
- The menstruation period is heavier and bleeding lasts longer than whats regular
- An abnormal vaginal bleeding is noticed between periods, after intercourse, or after menopause
- Continus discharge from the vagina is noticed. This may be varying in color from pale, watery, pink, brown, bloody, and foul smelling. In the event of advanced cervical cancer, the symptoms include back pain, leg pain, fatigue, loss of weight, loss of appetite, single swollen leg, heavy bleeding from the vagina, fractures in the bone or passing of urine / feces from the vagina.
The more prominent types of cervical cancer is known as Squamous Cells. About 80% of all cervical cancers comprises of Squamous Cell cervical cancer. These cells are flat in shape and they cover the outer surface of the cervix, also called as the ectocervix. The second type of cervical cancer is called the Adenomatous Cells. Although, it is less common, it is found that 1 in 20 cases of patients suffer due to adenocarcinoma. These cells produce mucus and they have gland cells scattered inside the passageway from the cervix to the endocervical canal.
There are tests and treatments available to cure if a woman is detected with cervical cancer. The treatments and medications are prescribed according to the type of cervical cancer, . It may be observed that latest medical research helps the doctors to operate without removing the uterus or damaging the cervix, so that a woman may still be able to bear children in future. On an early detection of cervical cancer, various surgical ways like Cryotherapy, Laser Therapy or Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure may be included. If the cervical cancer has spread across the uterus, then a Hysterectomy, which includes the removal of the uterus, may be required. The diffrent type of Cervical Cancer can be cured by removing or destroying the precancerous or cancerous tissue, if detected in the early stages.
There are various tests advised by the doctor’s to identify the type of cervical cancer. Colposcopy, Cone Bioposy, Endocervical Curettage are a few of them. To determine the extent and the intensity of the spread of the cancer, doctors conduct staging process. It includes a CT scan, MRI, Chest X ray and Intravenous Pyelogram. If undetected at an early stage, these cervical cancer cells may spread to the bladder, intestines, lungs and liver. Usually, patients have a fair chance of survival until the cancer has spread.
