The Chronic kidney disease is also called chronic renal disease and it occurs due to progressive loss of kidney function over a period. The symptoms are unspecific and generally it makes the patient feel uncomfortable and also experiences loss of appetite. This kidney disease is generally classified in to five stages according to the severity and chronic kidney disease treatment is given accordingly. A mild kidney disease is referred as kidney insufficiency. Due to the loss of kidney function, waste water and toxic substances get accumulated in the body and it also causes anemia, acidosis, high blood pressure, bone disease, disorders of fatty acids and cholesterol. Treatment for chronic kidney disease must be taken in the earlier stage once any symptom is identified. The chronic kidney disease develops over a period of months or years but the acute kidney disease develops in a shorter period of days or weeks. There are five stages for kidney disease and in the fifth stage, kidney fails.
Chronic kidney disease treatment can be given with the symptoms identified in any of the five stages. Some of the common symptoms of chronic kidney disease include frequent urination and particularly during the night, puffiness around eyes, swelling of legs, high blood pressure, loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea, fatigue, weakness, easy bruising, itching, pale skin, shortness of breath due to accumulation of fluid in the lungs, numbness in feet or hands, headaches, disturbed sleep, restless legs syndrome, bone pain, decrease in sexual interest, bleeding, chest pain due to inflammation around heart.
The treatment for chronic kidney disease can be done based on the diagnosis results. Usually it is difficult to identify any symptoms in the initial stages. Lab tests would help in detecting the problems. Anyone with the suspicion of chronic kidney disease should regularly undergo urine, blood, and imaging tests. The urine tests includes urinalysis, twenty four hours urine test, glomerular filtration rate and the blood test include creatinine and urea in blood, estimated GFR, Electrolyte levels, acid base balance, blood cell counts. Some of the other tests for chronic kidney disease treatment include ultrasound test and biopsy.
The treatment for chronic kidney disease requires the doctor’s consultation but there are things that can be done from your side to reduce the severances of the disease. In the daily general diet, the protein content intake must be reduced. There should be salt restriction and only four to six grams of salt must be taken a day. The patient must drink lot of water. Potassium and phosphorus content food must be avoided.
