There are various symptoms noticed in patients suffering with colorectal cancer staging. Patients often notice blood in the stool and its color may be bright red or dark in color. Anemia, which results in chronic bleeding, may also cause fatigue and pale skin in the patients. Other symptoms include constipation, change in bowel habits, diarrhea or abdominal discomfort which may include pain, bloating, cramping or fullness. People who use alcohol daily are at high risk. Obesity, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, eating high fat, low fiber diet are found to be prone to suffer with colorectal cancer staging. The cancer often begins with an abnormal growth or tumor in the lining of the colon. These growths can become precancerous and then cancerous; these problems increase significantly after the age of 50. The cause of the illness may also be due to the genetic predisposition to carcinogenic effects of the diet on the digestive tract or due to a high intake of fat and red meat and a low dietary intake of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Colorectal cancer is also known as Colon Cancer or Rectal Cancer. This is the fourth most common type of cancer. The doctors decide on the best course of treatment once they evaluate and understand the extent of the cancer spread in the body.
There are several therapies available for Staging Colorectal Cancer. They are Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy and they need proper patient follow ups after the treatment. Chemotherapy is used as a first line treatment for metastatic Colorectal Cancer to destroy cancer cells which have spread in the body. It is also used to shrink the tumor prior to the surgery. Doctors also combine chemotherapy with immunotherapy. The surgery for Colorectal Cancer is called adjuvant therapy. Immunotherapy is also known as Biological therapy. Here, the doctors attempt to stimulate the immune systems to fight disease and protect the body from side effects of chemotherapy. Much flu like side effects such as chills, diarrhea and fever are noticed in the patient during the treatment of Colorectal Cancer Staging.
The suggested diagnosis and imaging tests for Staging Colorectal Cancer include a chest x ray, CT scan, double contrast barium enema, flexible sigmoidoscopy and total colonoscopy. These tests are conducted to detect the tumors throughout the colon or for any existence of tumors in the sigmoid colon.
