The Hodgkin’s disease is also known as the Hodgkins lymphoma. The lymphatic system is very important in helping the immune system of the body to filter viruses, bacteria and waste substances. This lymphatic system includes thymus, lymph nodes or gland, tonsils, bone marrow, spleen, adenoid and channels. These are also known as lymph vessels. Many come to notice this only when the lymph nodes swell and this will often happens when a person falls sick. The lymphatic system functions very hard for filtering any infection from the body. The lymphomas involving reed Sternberg cell is classified under Hodgkin’s disease and this is further classified in to sub-types based on the cancerous tissue. This clearly states about what is Hodgkin’s disease.

To know more about what is Hodgkin’s disease here are some risk factors involved with the disease. The research made on the disease states about some risk factors that increases the chances of developing the disease in a person. Some of the risk factors that cause Hodgkin’s disease include infection of virus. Some types of virus like Epstein barr virus or human immunodeficiency virus are the major cause for the disease. They increase the risk factor in developing Hodgkin’s disease. The next risk factor is the weakened immune system like some particular types of drugs mainly after organ transplantation and inherited condition. Age is also an other risk factor to cause the disease. Hodgkin's disease is commonly found among teens and adults who are aged between 15 and 35 years. In addition, the adults who are above 55 years and above are also at the risk of getting affected by this disease. Family history also remains as an other factor for causing Hodgkin's disease. This particularly affects brothers, sisters of the person who is affected. Even other lymphomas also have the tendency to increase the probability to develop the illness inside the body. It does not mean that only any of these risk factors could develop the disease and even those without these factors have developed with cancer symptoms.

Some of the symptoms that cause Hodgkin's disease include swollen lymph nodes in groin, underarms or in neck and it do not hurt the person. The person will become more sensitive to the alcohol and the lymph node will be very painful after drinking the alcohol. There will be decrease in the weight and reason will be unknown. The person will be suffering with frequent and high fever and it will not go even if any medication is given. He/she will also experience a soaking night sweats and disturbed sleep due to sweat. The skin will be very itchy. The patient will be weaker day by day. A person can also suffer with these health problems due to other reasons, so medical check up is must.
