Alcohol is very well expected of the rebound effects it causes. To this, adds a new study conducted to find out the effect of alcohol on the sleep of a person consuming it.
The study has claimed the side effects of drinking alcohol are prominent in causing sleep disruptions, especially among women. Scientists explain; it is true that intoxication caused after taking in alcohol makes the drinker fall asleep quickly, but the thing to worry about the most due to alcohol intake is the disruptions that occur in the person’s latter night’s sleep are very annoying.
The study was synthesized on the basis of a practical research, in which over a hundred people were involved. For research purposes, they were allowed to drink a considerable amount of alcohol, and then were asked to sleep as per their convenience. The time when they fell asleep was recorded for each one of them. Also, there were many people who were seen to wake up in the middle of their sleeps and tried to fall asleep again. Every activity and movement of theirs was recorded, from drinking alcohol to sleeping in the night to waking up in the morning. Even they were made to answer questionnaires when they were awake in the morning.
All of these records, notifications and answered questionnaires were collected together and were analyzed. The final results of the practical study showed that people, no doubt, fell asleep in no time after having alcohol, but had quite a disturbed sleep. Most of them woke up during the night and couldn’t sleep again. Few of them tried sleeping back, but the process of sleep and wakefulness toggled. Also, more women than men faced this problem of sleep disruption. The quality of sleep they received was not satisfying, said the answers in the questionnaires. There was not much difference in the results people having an alcoholic history and those who had alcohol for hardly the 2nd time.
The study conducting scientists gave more emphasis on women being an easy prey to this kind of a situation, since the way alcohol metabolism takes place in a female body is quite deviating than that in a male body. Hence, a female body reacted more uncomfortably towards alcohol consumption, and showed more distortions during the course of sleeping, as compared to men. The scientists and doctors involved in the study advice people to stop following the myth that alcohol eases the process of falling asleep, because though it may provide you quick sleep, but the latter side effects result in more wakefulness than sleep, on an average.
